EMS' Fourth Annual SDG Day was an unmitigated success thanks to so many students, teachers, administrators, and staff members that it would take the entire blog to name all of them individually. However, some were so integral to the day's success that they must be named individually. The event included 8 student films, three student speeches, a musical performance by Psychology's Adrielle Ortiz, and SDG stations on things like recycling and composting set up by Global Perspectives students. In terms of students, thanks to all of our individual presenters from Year 11 Global Perspectives and History as well as Year 12 English General Paper and Psychology but a very special thanks go out to the Event's Emcees, Year 12 English General Paper's Farah Jaber and Psychology's Sanem Yucel. Thanks to all of our Humanities teachers, including the Lower Secondary teachers and students whose imaginative and creative work filled the cafeteria. However, a special thanks goes out to Mr. Javier who not only brought his classes in to support but helped with the setup during his free lesson. A very, very special thanks goes out to Ms. Ruby who smashed it as the event's director. This was particularly impressive as it was her directorial debut. Thanks to all of the teachers outside of the department who supported either by attending the event or providing needed coverage for Humanities teachers so that they could make this happen. Thanks to all the administrators who took time out of their almost absurdly busy schedules to attend. Finally, a very, very special thanks to Mr. Anan whose entire team helped with the massive event set up and went way overboard with things like the 18 wood SDG blocks. Facilities and support team, there is no other team in the school quite like you and the Humanities Department is filled with gratitude for each and everyone of you!
Year 10 and 11 History and Psychology held their 6th Annual Armistice Day. Students commemorated and celebrated the men and women who served as heroes in World War as well as the families who were affected by it. The event was led by student emcees Fritz Haddie Rojo, Karma Sallam, and Henan Li and more than a dozen Year 10 and 11 students participated as well as Mr. Jaco, Mr. Piet, and Mr. Sasha. Students watched original student films, read their Letters From the Front Projects and a large number of student projects were on display to add gravity to the event and make it more memorable. Thanks to all the students who supported, both within and outside the department as well as all of the teachers and administrators who supported.

Humanities Department held its second annual Art and Graphic Design Festival in F1-19. More than three dozen students and teachers voted throughout the day and served on the panel to determine the winners. Year 11 History were the day's greatest winners taking home 1st and 2nd place prizes in the Best Class Project as well as winning three other categories as well but Year 10 History, Year 12 Psychology, and Lower Secondary all produced multiple winners as well. Feel free to congratulate the following winners as well if you see them in school either taking exams or attending class. The Humanities Department would like to thank all teachers and administrators who took time out of their exceedingly busy schedule to support both the department and our students. A special thanks goes out to Ms. who was particularly helpful in terms of assisting the panelists. If you would like to the work of all of our students/the entrants, F1-19 will remain set up throughout the day on Sunday.

This year, for the first time ever, Mr Pierre and Mr. Saleem taught opposing arguments for and against the use of nuclear energy.
WW1 Galipolli
For the first half of the lesson Mr. Piet had the students analyze the World War I Gallipoli campaign in preparation for their Paper 4 Mock Exam. Mr. Gunnar then took over and had the students jump into a time machine 46 years later and analyze the impact of the Berlin Wall in preparation for their Paper 1 Exam. Mr. Gunnar has had to interleave out of necessity due to reduced instruction time over the past two years but when polled 78% of the class, although it was a small class and thus sample size, reported that it helped improve their recall and retrieval.
