Welcome to the Upper Primary AIM department's section in this year's Yearbook! With our focus on Assistance, Inclusion, and Mentoring, we embrace the theme of acceptance and inclusion, fostering a supportive community where everyone thrives. Empowering our AIM students through targeted literacy strategies, we prioritize phonics, guided reading, inference, and vocabulary development. None of this would have been possible without your support as parents. Your collaboration and involvement have been invaluable in helping our students succeed.
Phonics, Digraphs, Blends and Spelling
Exploring phonics unlocks the magic of reading! In our snapshots, students dive into phonics activities, mastering the sounds of letters and building the foundation for strong reading skills. With each lesson, we celebrate the journey of becoming confident and fluent readers.
Through sentence construction practice, students learn to build strong and clear sentences, laying the groundwork for effective communication and writing.
Building inference skills is like unlocking the secrets hidden within a story. In AIM, we teach students how to read between the lines, make educated guesses, and understand the deeper meaning behind what they read. By practising inference skills, students become detectives of literature, gaining a deeper understanding of the text and becoming more thoughtful readers
Guided reading is a special time in our classroom where students read books at their own level, with an AIM teacher's support. During guided reading, we focus on practising reading skills like understanding the story, learning new words, and discussing what we read. It's a great way for students to grow as readers while feeling supported and confident!
One-on-One Support Sessions
AIM also provides focused support, our one-on-one sessions highlight the dedication to bridging learning gaps. Through personalized guidance, students receive the attention they need to flourish academically and achieve their full potential.
Math Vocabulary and Problem Solving Skills
Engaging in math sentence exploration, students sharpen their problem-solving skills by following instructions and deciphering mathematical concepts, paving the way for confident problem solvers in our classroom.
Celebrations and Special Days:
Book tasting activities where students sampled a variety of books in a short time and shared their opinions. Students also dived into fun games with book-related questions to explore the enjoyment of reading.
By embracing cultural diversity, we cultivate inclusivity and deepen understanding, fostering meaningful experiences that celebrate traditions and unite our school community through Ramadan activities. Students engaged in insightful discussions about their cultural practices, followed by collaborative word searches to identify English words associated with Ramadan. They further enriched their vocabulary and language skills by crafting lanterns decorated with these words, showcasing their understanding and sharing their traditions in English.
Students are learning about Pi day and enjoying comprehension and creative activities.
Collaboration is at the heart of our approach to education. Not only do we work closely with teachers within our school, but we also embrace partnerships with educators from other schools and the community, fostering a rich exchange of ideas and practices. Our commitment to collaboration extends globally, as evidenced by hosting visitors from places like Saudi Arabia and South Africa, where we share our expertise and learn from each other either online or face-to-face. Together, we strive to create a community of educators dedicated to enhancing the learning experience for all students.
Thank you for being part of our journey towards acceptance, inclusion, and growth.
