Our Robotics Program is Led by Ms. Loretta. Twice a week students stay after school to work on their robotic project to prepare for the ROBOCUP event. Two high school students ( former graduates of OLP) Johnathan and Maria join us in the science room. On thursday Ms. Sherron also comes in to help out and on Wednesday Ms.Loretta's daughter Bianca troubleshoots with the kids and helps them write the code for their robots. During the course of the year the students learned how to build ev3 robots and how to code them and do various challenges. Most importantly, students learned how to troubleshoot: If it doesn't work, why? What are the things we need to check?
"On April 28- 29 2023, the robotics club attended the Robocup junior competition at Lauren Hill Academy. There were 3 groups of onstage performers for a total of 14 students. I am happy to say that the Ice Age team for the onstage performance came in 3rd place. This group consisted of 3 second-graders and one fourth-grader. The other 2 teams came close behind, very proud of all the students who participated. What is an "Onstage performance challenge", the onstage challenge requires students to choose a song and choreograph a short performance on stage with robots.
We also had 2 teams of 4 participated in the Roboparty: follow-the-line, go through a maze, sumo wrestling, and a dancing robot. One of the teams won an honorable mention and a super team victory." - Ms. Loretta
