The Curatorial Project

Our interconnected world demands that every story is told with the

    inclusion of narratives of many.

J.J. Lankes’ American story is no different.

As a whole, Carving Deep: J.J. Lankes’ American Story strives to portray

an accurate and complete picture of Lankes’ life’s work, and the vast

array of Lankes’ prints displayed together demonstrates his true mastery of the

material.

The Craft of Woodcutting

"I think I am the first in this country to put out black and white woodcut prints as prints not as illustrations or advertising matter."

Literary Connections

"I have been reading much poetry lately, too much in fact"

Triptych of Tales

"Creation-that is the slogan of the gods, and for those who fail-oblivian."

Constructing the Colonial

"What is the best way with which to summon back the past of Virginia?"
