Who are We?
We are the Asian American Student Initiative (AASI) at William & Mary. The purpose of this organization is to promote awareness and representation of Asian American (Southeast, South, Central, West, and East Asian) and Pacific Islander issues at the College. AASI seeks to fulfill its purpose by advocating for Asian and Pacific Islander American Studies, providing a space for APIA student interests and concerns, and engaging the student community through education, radical empathy, and programming.
Regular Meetings
AASI meets every other Tuesday throughout the academic year in Chancellors 123 at 8 PM except for Tuesdays on school breaks and exam weeks. Everyone is welcome to support and engage in conversations. Though, we ask folks to create an empathetic space for Asian Americans during discussions about identity and experiences.
We have general body meetings with more structure with presentation and discussion (best for anyone who wants to learn more about Asian American issues), and we have more free-form meetings centered on dialogue and flexible topics. Please consult our social media, group chat, or emails by joining our email list for more information.
If you are not a member of the William & Mary community, please get in touch with us if you would like to attend a meeting so that we may do our best to follow university guidelines and protocol.
AASI is a space for people to share experiences and process new information. You are never required to come into our meetings knowing anything about the topic. We will always be grateful for your presence, and please don't hesitate to bring friends (of all and any backgrounds)!
Accessibility and Accommodations
The Chancellors Hall building is accessible through the back and from the left side ramp on the front of the building. If you require further accessibility accommodations, please don't hesitate to contact us. This can range from ensuring you have a seat at the front to hear us to larger font sizes, sharing the presentation to have it on a different monitor, or speaking with you about how the meeting will go beforehand to ease any reservations. We will always do our best to ensure you have access to our organization and meetings!
