It was a sunny day. No clouds in sight with the perfect amount of wind, almost like it was the perfect day. I went and found a cute little market where out of 12 men there was 1 woman. It was there where I started talking with her about her clothes and asked her to share how her life was living as a woman in Classical Greece. She then shared with me that she walks the same path every Wednesday morning through Greece. Where she walks from her house all the way to the market area where she sets up shop. She then tells me that she spins and weaves her own clothes that she then makes for herself, her husband, and her children. She also makes it for the people in town so she can help her family make money. She shares with me that the money she earns every Wednesday she is not allowed to keep but has to give it to her husband. There are many people here today, I am guessing this is because of the beautiful day. I stayed here for a couple hours talking with her, learning more about her life living here in Greece. After a couple of hours have passed, I started walking more around the market area. I then later see another woman walking around. I go up to her and start making conversation. I want to learn more about her, so I asked her if she could tell me about her day to day and what life is like. She then shared with me that she wakes up every day and goes straight to taking care of her children. She wakes up her three beautiful boys and starts making their breakfast. She then tells me that she is so thankful they all came out to be boys or else she doesn't know what she would have done. She shares with me that life can be so hard to be a woman sometimes in Greece. Though she is grateful to be alive and have her three boys, that isn’t the situation for all women. She continues telling me that Greek women aren’t allowed to own land, vote, buy property, and many other things. But it is okay because she appreciates her life right now. She says she is blessed with three sons who she adores and takes care of all day, every day, and a husband who helps provide for the family. They are able to live and eat food where she can make breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the whole family. I am thankful for these women sharing how their life was like living as women in Classical Greece. I hope they can soon live life without the restrictions they have now.
