As I continue to walk through the magnificent Classical Greece I stumble upon a soldier. This soldier I learned was a part of the Peloponnesian War. I remember always hearing about this war as I was learning about other parts of Classical Greece and wanted to know more about it. This thankfully was the perfect time to learn. I knew I had to make this opportunity last, so I walked towards him, and I made sure to strike up a conversation with him. I asked him what it was like being a part of the Peloponnesian War. What I learned through him was fascinating. What he shared with me was that this was a war between Athens and Sparta that lasted for a long time. He shared with me how the war was a struggling time for the people of Classical Greece and especially for the soldiers. I learned that this soldier's name is Thucydides, who was an Athenian general. I learned through Thucydides that at one point they Athenians and Spartans had a long-lasting truce between the two city states before the war. But later that truce ended, and the Peloponnesian War started. Through more conversation with Thucydides, I learned that Athens had a great Navy power while Sparta had great Army power. He shared with me how it was a struggle for both sides to beat the other, but eventually after many years of fighting there was a winner. After the long Peloponnesian War between the two city states Sparta had won. Though one of them finally won the war it took a big toll on the government of Classical Greece and caused a great shift in the way of life of Greece. Changing the culture of Classical Greece that led to an increase of poverty throughout the land since the war took a big chunk of money. I am glad that I was finally able to learn about the infamous Peloponnesian War especially through the eyes of a soldier.
