Hello everyone!
My name is Genesis Guevara Diaz, and I am 20 years old. I was born in 2004 into a proud Salvadorian family. I currently live in Manassas, Virginia, with my parents and four brothers. I graduated from Unity Reed High School in June 2023. I am now attending NOVA to pursue an associate's degree in education. I am passionate about teaching and look forward to making a positive impact in the lives of my future students!
Mrs. Radford, ECE and PWCS Teachers For Tomorrow Instructor♥️
From a young age, I've always expressed my love for children and my love of becoming a teacher. I enjoyed looking after my siblings, babysitting for various families, and assisting with Sunday school at church. I've always been captivated by how imaginative and creative children can be, their boundless love for others, and even their silly thought-provoking questions!
In high school, my career towards becoming a teacher truly began to take shape. I chose an elective in early childhood education taught by Mrs. Radford at Unity Reed High School. As part of the course I completed fieldwork in a first-grade classroom at Ellis Elementary with Mrs. Samsel. She was incredibly kind, and seeing how she taught, along with the love her students had for her, solidified my passion for teaching.
Mrs. Radford and Mrs. Samsel has been my greatest inspiration and strongest supporter on my journey to becoming a teacher. I am so grateful for their guidance and mentorship. These remarkable educators are shaping the next generation and learning from them has been one of the most valuable opportunities of my life!
2023 Educators Rising National Competition
I firmly believe that enthusiasm is essential for a teacher to be effective in the classroom, and I bring that energy every day! I'm known for being a cheerful and funny person who loves making learning fun and enjoyable. I want my classroom to be a happy, vibrant space for children to feel excited to learn. Teacher set that tone for their students, so creating a joyful and positive environment is one of my top priorities.
Creativity is one of my greatest strengths, and I think it's a crucial quality for educators. When kids are having fun, they learn better! Engaging activities encourage children to think outside the box and express Themselves in unique ways. I loved collaborating with one of my closest friends, Gaby Hernandez, to illustrate a book for the 2023 Educators Rising National Competition. It was an amazing experience that highlighted the power of creativity in education.
Patience is another strength of mine, and it is vital when working with children. Life can be challenging for kids as their curiosity drives them to constantly explore and learn. Every child is unique, with their own learning style, cultural background, and perspective. It takes patience to foster a calm, secure place where all children feel valued and free to express themselves.
Above all, my classroom will be a welcoming safe space. I will ensure that every child who steps into my classroom feels loved, valued, and safe. Creating a comfortable environment is essential for children to thrive, learn, and express themselves fully.
Ms. Ivia Young, Director and Preschool Teacher♥️
I have worked with kids for over a year! While in high school, I had the opportunity to participate in NOVA dual enrollment and complete 70+ hours of fieldwork. During this time, I worked with SACC in Prince William County Schools and as a preschool teacher assistant at a daycare. This allowed me to gain hands-on experience in both structured and play-based learning environments.
I was very fortunate to meet Ms. Ivia, who has been instrumental in my professional development. As my supervisor, she provided me with expensive training in key areas such as child safety, lesson planning, classroom management, and fostering positive relationships with both children and their families. Her guidance taught me the importance of maintaining a nurturing and stimulating environment that supports children's growth and development.
This foundation greatly benefited me in my current role as a full-time VALLS and ALL-IN tutor for Prince William County schools. As a tutor, I work one-on-one with students to enhance their academic skills, confidence, and enthusiasm for learning. These experiences have deepened my understanding of child development and reinforced my commitment to creating meaningful educational experiences for every child.
