This I Believe
I believe in the generosity of mankind. Some believe that people are mostly violent and uncaring towards other people. There are individuals like this who care little about anyone else but I believe that most are not. The acts of kindness I have seen keep me believing that, most of the world is full of kind caring people.
I have witnessed the generosity of people towards strangers throughout my life. Many times I have seen people helping each other through tough situations. In 2015 I was stationed at Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis, New Mexico. A friend there was falling on some tough times after losing his job. He had run out of money and was on the verge of being homeless. That is when I saw the true kindness of man. A few of our mutual friends got together, helped him look for a job, and let him move in with them. After a while he found a new job and was eventually able to get his life back on track. But, without the generosity and caring nature of other people he might have ended up on the street with little hope of improving his situation.
That was just one example of how people will go out of their way to help others. That situation was between people who knew each other but, similar things happen between strangers. Many people will go out of the way to help individuals that they don’t even know. If you drive by an accident scene on a road you will most always see people around trying to help. Also, the fact that there are many volunteer organizations that people have founded. There are many people who volunteer their time and money just to help others.
The number of volunteers for charitable organizations and public services such as volunteer fire departments shows how much people are ready to give, and how much they care for others. Those people do an incredible amount of work to help others. Some have given their lives trying to save others. They are the reason I can continue to believe that even through the terrible things that are happening in the world, humans are still kind and caring.
