Panopto

Panopto allows for a live lecture in the classroom to be recorded and linked to in Bb for your students to access later. It captures audio, whatever you’re doing on the computer, and whatever you point the webcam at. The recordings are formatted in a way that makes it easy for a student to find the parts of a lecture that they want to review.

NOTE: If you're going to use Panopto (or any other recording) in the classroom, make sure your syllabus contains language from the BRCC Syllabus Template, which can be found at the bottom of this page.

Manual

Here's the manual for using Panopto at BRCC, and here is a link to Panopto’s how-to videos.

Where are my videos?

Although you link to your videos in Bb, they are actually stored on the Panopto server. You’ll note that after making a recording you receive an email with links that take you to the server, where you can view and manipulate all of your videos. The direct link to the server is http://brcc.hosted.panopto.com/ At the login screen use the dropdown menu to choose “Blackboard;” you won’t be able to log in using the default “Panopto” setting. You can also get to your videos from the link on the recorder and from the "Tools" menu in any of your Blackboard courses that Panopto is enable in.

How do I download the recorder for home use?

The recorder is a free download; go to http://brcc.hosted.panopto.com/ and login with your Blackboard credentials. Once logged in, in the upper right you will see “Download Recorder” under your name. When installing, use brcc.hosted.panopto.com for the server address. There are also apps for Apple and Google devices in their respective stores. NOTE: You need to have enabled at least one of your courses before doing this (see manual above).

Required Language for Syllabus

If you're going to use Panopto (or any other recording) in the classroom, make sure your syllabus contains the following language from the BRCC Syllabus Template:

COURSE RECORDINGS: Meetings of this course might be recorded; these recordings will be available to students registered for this class and are intended to supplement the classroom experience. Students are expected to follow appropriate BRCC policies and maintain the security of passwords used to access recorded lectures. Recordings may not be reproduced, shared with those not in the class, or uploaded to other online environments without prior written instructor permission; doing so would be a breach of the BRCC Honor Code. If the instructor or any other BRCC personnel or departments plan for other uses for the recordings beyond this class, students identifiable in the recordings will be asked for consent prior to such use.
