Week 4
April 29 - May 2
April 29 - May 2
We both had FANTASTIC April breaks with Kaitlyn on the school Art trip, where she travelled through Europe, and Nora on the Spanish trip, where she explored Costa Rica! Since Nora's flight home from the Spanish trip did not arrive until Monday night, I had a quiet day of editing alone at Medfield TV. I worked on editing the fourth episode of the podcast with Marshall Advisor's LLC, which will be uploaded this week!
On Monday and Tuesday, we spent 2 hours each day editing the Marshall LLC and Saulnier Chiropractic Episode. These will be uploaded by the end of this week to our blog!
To edit our podcast, we use Adobe Premiere Pro, an editing software available to us at Medfield TV! To edit our podcast, we go through the audio recording and remove pauses, "ums", and any repetitive sections.
On Wednesday, we worked on solidifying our plans for the following week. We confirmed our Thursday morning interview with 21 North, and sent emails to Borchers Trust Law Group and West Street Veterinary Clinic. This senior project has not only made us more comfortable reaching out to businesses, but also has improved the speed at which we send emails. In the past, we dreaded sending emails and anxiously reread what we had typed hundreds of times before sending, but now the entire process feels like second nature. Similarly, writing interview questions, while initially foreign, is now a part of our weekly routine. Since every episode of our podcast has the same goal (to promote local small businesses and provide students with information on various career paths), we ask similar questions in every interview and make minor tweaks to tailor the questions to each specific business.
Wednesday morning, Nora and I had the privilege of interviewing Nikki Larkin, the owner of 21 North! 21 North is a casual upscale restaurant in Medfield, coming up on one year of business. Fun fact: the space 21 North is in was initially a post office built by Nikki's husband's father and uncle! As Medfield grew, the space was too small to be the town's post office, so it was converted to the restaurant Zebra's before eventually turning into Nosh and Grog. When Nosh and Grog's lease ran out, Nikki and her husband took the opportunity to reclaim Garret's family's building. Nikki also told us about her journey from a philosophy major in college to working as a bank executive, to opening a restaurant with her husband last May. She talked to us about the freedoms and challenges owning a restaurant provides, and how organization is the key to her success. Most importantly, she mentioned how 21 North connects her to her community and fosters new friendships between customers. This episode sheds light on the wide variety of responsibilities owning a restaurant entails, and we hope everyone can take a listen!
Thursday night, Nora and I headed over to 21 North for dinner to experience the restaurant while it was open. It was lively and bustling, and we saw Medfield residents not only connecting with old friends, but also making new ones! Most importantly, we had the pleasure of listening to Dr.Marc, the owner of Saulnier Chiropractic whom we interviewed last week, performing live at the restaurant! The live music 21 North offers makes for an incredibly entertaining night while also supporting local musicians.
