If you're teaching an asynchronous online course (an icourse or ONLN course), you'll want to start by requesting your D2L course, reading up on the updates on this site under the specific course you're teaching, copy the PDC course you need into your brand new D2L site, and then jump into the instructor Manual in the D2L course you've copied (the new Instructor Manuals are linked inside the courses in D2L and in the shared GDrive folders for both ENGL 101 and 102). The Support section and Textbooks/Syllabus section of this site will also be useful. Please use Part 3 of the Instructor Manual for your course to help ensure you've completed all the steps for setting up your course in D2L.
If you're teaching a Live Online course or Hybrid course, it's worthwhile to first consider whether you plan to use the PDC as a jumping off point, as a way to ground your class, or copying bits and pieces you like. To do that, it's recommended that you explore the course page for an overview of what you'll find and a link to the D2L so you can click around. The Support Section of the site has some videos on different types of copying you might want to do as well as suggestions for Live Online.
If you're teaching in person, you'll want to do consider what and how much of the course you want to use. To do that, it's recommended that you explore the course page for an overview of what you'll find and a link to the D2L so you can click around. The Support section of the site has some videos on different types of copying you might want to do.
In order to copy any PDC or part of a PDC, you will first need to request your D2L course shell (request a new site>select the term and how many shells>then add your sections to the shell). If you're teaching more than one section of the same course (so 4 ENGL101's for example), you could put them all in the same course shell (some instructors like to do this so they're updating just one space; others feel it makes the shell overwhelming).
If you have combined sections, which occurs often with asynchronous courses, be sure to include all of the sections in your shell. For example, you may have the following sections: ENGL102 with sections 210 and 110. You’ll want to put all those sections in the same shell as they are the same course. If you are teaching a section number in the 200s, then you are teaching an Arizona Online section. If you are teaching a section number in the 400s, then you're teaching a Global Direct section.
After you’ve requested your shell, you’ll receive a message letting you know it’s ready. Keep in mind that there’s a human on the other end of this process, so the sooner you request the shell, the better. Requesting your shell is also what triggers the system to add in your Inclusive Access module for the textbooks.
Once you’ve received confirmation, you’ll want to copy over the course you’ll be using, but first, please read about the course you're teaching in the Courses section of this website. After you familiarize yourself with what you'll find and you've copied over the course into your new D2L shell, please go to START HERE>Instructor Manual in your course to begin prepping your shell.
