This laboratory provides hands on learning experience for engineering undergraduate students to design and create medical devices. The laboratory includes instruction, fabrication and testing areas in electronics, mechanics, chemistry and biology in one facility. It is a philanthropic gift and was opened for the first class in Spring 2020. The instruction space is designed for 10 teams of 3 students, with each station equipped with research grade electronics testing and assembly equipment as well as flexible exhaust system and tables on wheels. The fabrication area is equipped with a laser cutter (150W 24x36”) a waterjet (Protomax 12x12”), PCB mill (LPKF Protomat E44), 3D printers (Prusa i3 MK3S and Prusa SL1), desktop lathe and mill (precisionmathews) and future CNC mill. The chemical laboratory is equipped with two see through chemical fume hoods, vacuum pump and dishwasher and the biological laboratory with two 6’ biosafety hoods, CO2 incubators, freezer and refrigerator and fluorescence microscope.
