This course is an introduction to marine communities and lower level organisms. Plants and animals of the Long Island Sound estuary is studied through lecture, hands-on laboratory work, and identification of organisms and habitats. Organisms studied include marsh plants, seaweeds, sponges, jellies, corals, plankton, worms, and mollusks like clams, oysters, snails, octopus and squid. This course includes a squid dissection.

Prerequisite: Biology.
