Gifted Services
East Liverpool City Schools is committed to identifying and supporting gifted and talented learners through specially designed instruction, enrichment, and acceleration when appropriate. Gifted services in ELCSD focus on nurturing high potential in academic, creative, or intellectual domains and ensuring that these students continue growing in their unique areas of strength.
Program Overview
Gifted identification and service follow Ohio’s Operating Standards for Gifted Education.
Services may include differentiated instruction, project-based enrichment, acceleration, compacting, and opportunities for extended depth of study.
Each student receiving gifted services will have a Written Education Plan (WEP) that outlines individual goals, supports, and monitoring procedures.
Identification & Eligibility
Referrals can be made by teachers, parents, or students.
Evaluation includes multiple criteria (e.g. cognitive ability, achievement, academic performance, teacher recommendation).
Once identified, students generally maintain gifted status unless re-evaluation or withdrawal is considered.
Support & Monitoring
Gifted students are served through both in-class differentiation and pull-out or cluster experiences, depending on needs and grade level.
Progress toward WEP goals is reviewed regularly, with adjustments made as needed.
Students may be considered for acceleration or advanced coursework based on readiness and WEP evidence.
