The Spring Undergraduate Research Forum (SURF) is a time each year when we suspend our other campus activities to celebrate the academically centered creative endeavors and research efforts of Elon’s students. (Please also see Today at Elon news story to the right).

Student researcher Kenan Carter ('25) from the Infant Development Laboratory recently presented her research at the annual conference for the Southeastern Psychological Association (SEPA), in Atlanta, Georgia!
SEPA is the largest psychological organization in the southeast and one of largest in the United States. The purpose of SEPA is to advance psychology as a science, as a profession, and as a means of promoting human welfare.
Please see the Today at Elon news story below for more information! We are so proud of Kenan!
Please check out our new academic publication by former lab research student Rebecca Rose ('23) and lab director Dr. Sabrina Thurman on infants' pull-to-stand strategies (please see Today at Elon news story to the left).
In March, Parker presented her Elon College Fellows research on fathers and infant motor development at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), which was held in Long Beach, CA! NCUR is dedicated to promoting undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activity in all fields of study. We are so proud of Parker -- Congratulations on a successful presentation!
This April, Parker was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, which is is America's most prestigious academic honor society. Only 10% of U.S. colleges and universities have Phi Beta Kappa chapters. These chapters select only 10% of their arts and sciences graduates to join. Membership affirms their motto "Love of learning is the guide of life."

Two students from the Infant Development Laboratory (Hannah Higgins '23 and Parker Fairfield '24) recently presented their research at the annual conference for the Southeastern Psychological Association (SEPA), which is being held in New Orleans, Louisiana!
SEPA is the largest psychological organization in the southeast and one of largest in the United States. The purpose of SEPA is to advance psychology as a science, as a profession, and as a means of promoting human welfare.
We are so proud of Hannah and Parker and congratulate them on a job well done in presenting at the conference!
Two students from the Infant Development Laboratory (Tiffany Pham '23 and Becca Rose '23) recently attended the biennial conference for the Society for Research in Child Development, which was held in Salt Lake City, Utah!
Attendance at SRCD averages 6,500 and includes professionals and graduate students in psychology, human development, family studies, education, public policy, sociology, social work, psychiatry, pediatrics, and public health. Conference topics span from prenatal development to adolescence.
Tiffany and Becca presented posters showcasing their research from Elon University. This is an important achievement because SRCD is not an undergraduate conference. What this shows is our collaborative research was of such high caliber that it successfully competed alongside submissions from faculty and graduate students and passed through the peer review process for inclusion in the conference program. We are so proud of Tiffany and Becca and commend them on their hard work to get to this point, and on an excellent job presenting at the conference!
We are very excited to announce that lab member Parker Fairfield ('24) was selected to receive a Rawls endowed grant!
Endowed grants are intended to enhance quality mentoring relationships between faculty and students who work together to answer questions, solve problems, and provide learning opportunities of the highest caliber. Rawls grants are awarded to only a few Elon University students annually.
Parker is a junior Elon College Fellow and research mentee whose research focuses on understanding fathers' beliefs and practices surrounding infant motor development and the role they play in their infants' motor skill development. Congratulations to Parker (pictured on the left in the photo to the right) on this incredible achievement!
The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) represents undergraduate research at its best. Student researchers earn a stipend while spending eight weeks working full-time on a project in collaboration with a faculty mentor with substantial and recognized expertise in the discipline. The purpose of the SURE program is to enhance learning opportunities for students while encouraging collaboration in learning and research between faculty and students (Please also see photos below).
Hannah Higgins ('23) presents her research on parental beliefs and practices surrounding infant motor development.
Tiffany Pham ('23) presents her research on mother and infant co-creation of relational space across the first two years of life.
Since 1977, Elon’s Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa has recognized members of our campus community who demonstrate outstanding leadership and a commitment to high academic standards. Yesterday, OΔK hosted the annual Leadership Awards Ceremony.
Congratulations to lab member Tiffany Pham for being awarded OΔK's Katharine duPont Weymouth Scholarship, which recognizes an outstanding student (usually a junior) majoring in the social sciences, who has maintained an academic record of excellence and who is engaged in work that asks an important social science question or engages important social science methodology. Tiffany, we are so proud of your accomplishments!

In the show, host Dr. Irena Lovcevic interviews female researchers to understand the challenges that women in academia face and how to overcome those challenges. The goal is to share the stories of inspirational women in Academia to support girls/women who are considering academic careers and to provide helpful tips on thriving in both academic and everyday life.
We hope you might give it a listen!
