The Hokkaido University EXEX Doctoral Fellowship is founded on the concept of “EXEX,” which integrates Excellence in research with Extension for societal impact. The fellowship aims to cultivate “Pioneers of Future Society” who possess not only advanced expertise in their respective fields, but also the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, the capacity to design and create new social and industrial value, and the comprehensive set of competencies known as the “4+1 Competencies.” Equipped with these qualities, fellowship students are expected to address the diverse and complex challenges facing both local communities and the global society.
To achieve this goal, the fellowship provides financial support through a non-repayable stipend to doctoral students who demonstrate outstanding research capabilities and engage in innovative, interdisciplinary research.
