How to Apply

Required Application Documents

Applicants must submit the documents listed below. Applications that do not use the designated template, do not comply with the instructions provided, or are missing required documents will not be reviewed.

（１）Research Proposal（  Required｜Designated Template  ）

・Please download and use the designated template.

・Submit the completed document in PDF format via the application form.

・Strictly adhere to the page limits specified for each section.

　Research Proposal（Word format）

Papers Eligible for Additional Evaluation Points

Applicants may include any published papers in the research achievement section of the research proposal. If you have any papers eligible for additional evaluation points, such as peer-reviewed original research articles authored as the first author, accepted to journals with an IF in any language, please enter the required information in the application form. The submitted information will be evaluated during the selection process.

（２）Recommendation Letter from the Supervisor at Hokkaido University（  Required  ）

Applicants who will be required to submit it for the 2nd stage selection will be notified separately by mid-July.

Application Process

・Applicants should refer to the sample application form, complete the required information in the appropriate application form, and upload documents (1), (3), (4), and (5) listed above.

・Please note that different application forms are available depending on your applicant status and application period. Be sure to use the correct form. Applications submitted through the wrong form may not be considered for review.

・Ask your academic supervisor (or prospective academic supervisor) to submit the recommendation letter described in Document (2) by the application deadline.

・The October 2026 (Current Student) application form requires a Hokkaido University ELMS Google Account. If you have used multiple Google accounts in the same web browser, saved account information (cookies) may cause login errors. If you experience a login error, please sign out of all other Google accounts, clear your browser cookies, or try accessing the form using a different web browser.

・The October 2026 (New Student) and April 2027 (Early Recruitment for New Students) application forms do not require a Hokkaido University ELMS Google Account. However, applicants must sign in with their own Google Account.

Applications can be submitted from May 11.

＜For Students Admitted to a Doctoral Course Before October 2026＞

Important Notes

・If your Google Drive storage is full, you may be unable to upload files. Please ensure that you have sufficient storage space in advance by deleting unnecessary files or taking other appropriate measures. As the application deadline approaches, server traffic may increase. Please submit your application well before the deadline. Applications submitted after the application period has ended will not be accepted, even if the submission process was already in progress.

・Receipt of the automatic confirmation email from Google Forms serves as proof that your application has been successfully submitted. If you do not receive the confirmation email, please check your spam folder and verify that the email address entered in the application form is correct.

Application Revisions

You may revise your application form after submission until the application deadline. The Research Proposal may also be revised by uploading an updated version through the application form before the deadline. While previously uploaded files cannot be deleted, the most recently uploaded file as of the application deadline will be regarded as the final version and used for review.
