Algebra

The widespread utility and effectiveness of mathematics come not just from mastering specific skills, topics, and techniques, but more importantly, from developing the ways of thinking —the habits of mind—used to create the results.

Course Objectives

  • Understand equivalence and fluently manipulate expressions and equations/inequalities.
  • Model, represent, and connect relationships using tables, graphs, and symbols.
  • Investigate patterns, abstract their essential structure and generalize.
  • Analyze numerical expressions and data, and use variables to make generalizations about expressions and data.
  • Use properties of algebra to solve equations and inequalities.
  • Use a graph and table to answer questions about expressions, to solve equations, to compare rates of change, and to describe data.
  • Analyze linear, exponential, and quadratic functions.
