DECA’s prepared events require a written project as well as a prepared presentation, and some require participants to take a career cluster exam. All of these events should be started early in the school year because of the preparation involved.
These events compete in a preliminary round that takes place in early December. A select number of submissions from West Suburban DECA will advance to IL CDC (the state competition). York is allowed one submission per event. If there are multiple submissions, York DECA advisors will review the submissions and determine which to submit. Students may only compete in one prepared event in addition to role play events and online events. All previous competitors are eligible to compete in these events.
These events advance straight to IL CDC (the state competition). There is no preliminary competition. York is allowed 2 or 3 submissions based on the event. You must confirm your selection with a York DECA advisor before you begin. Students may only compete in one prepared event in addition to role play events and online events. Only previous state qualifiers are eligible to compete in these events.
