Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

Volunteer EMTs provide emergency medical care in a variety of emergencies. EMTs primarily respond to medical calls but will also assist on rescues, fires, and HAZMAT incidents. Volunteer EMTs respond on ambulances. Volunteer EMTs are afforded unique opportunities to provide medical coverage at special events such as Merriweather Post Pavilion concerts.

Volunteers begin as probationary members and will complete coursework and training prior to being cleared to function independently on an apparatus. Probationary EMTs will complete courses and receive certifications in HAZMAT Operations and Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B).

Opportunities for advancement include learning how to drive an ambulance and becoming an Advanced Life Support (ALS) paramedic.
