Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
Anxiety is more than just a temporary fear—it is a constant state of worry or nervousness for some students. While the signs of anxiety look different for everyone, here are a few common symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder
Feeling nervous, irritable, or on edge
Feeling a sense of impending danger, panic, or doom
Having an increased heart rate
Breathing rapidly (hyperventilation), sweating, and/or trembling
Feeling weak or tired
Difficulty concentrating
Having trouble sleeping
Experiencing gastrointestinal (GI) problems
Panic disorders & Panic attacks
People who experience spontaneous seemingly out-of-the-blue panic attacks and are very preoccupied with the fear of a recurring attack
When kids avoid certain locations because of a fear of something bad happening
Social anxiety disorder
Anxiety disorder characterized by a child’s inability to speak and communicate effectively in social situations
A condition in which a child becomes fearful and nervous when away from home or separated from a loved one
