- A changeover will not occur until your building is fully 1:1. You will be contacted by the Instructional Technology team with a number of options to support you in a transition in the meantime.
I was a TCT Spring of 2016. Do I have to go through all of the Phase trainings in order to get iPads?
- You will be contacted by the Instructional Technology team with an alternative training opportunity if you are interested. It will be an abbreviated version of the Phase trainings that will honor the time you have already invested as an early adopter.
What happens to the chromebooks that I already have?
- The Chromebooks currently in the district will eventually be used for checkout at the building level when having more than one device increases student productivity.
Can we do testing on iPads?
- Yes, all required testing software will function on an iPad. Many also include improved accessibility features.
Can I put apps on my iPad as a teacher?
- As a teacher, you will be free to download whatever apps you'd like using your Apple ID.
How can I get apps on my student iPads?
- We have streamlined the provisioning of apps to student iPads. There are a number of "core apps" described on the iOS page of this website. You can also request new apps not currently available on that page.
How can I project my iPad on my classroom projector?
- Now that a decision has been made about the student device, the district is investigating the best solution for wireless projection for each classroom. Adapters and cables can be purchased for projection in the meantime.
Who made the decision to switch to iPads?
- A committee of 16 teachers and administrators, many with significant time already invested in using Chromebooks, unanimously recommended Elkhart schools adopt iPads as student devices in the 1:1 program.
Are we going to get keyboards with the iPads?
- The group distinguished between student needs and teacher comfort. Students are working mobile much of the time and dictating papers into their cell phones is becoming the norm. When keyboards are the input device of choice, we have nearly 3,500 Chromebooks that will be available in the district in addition to computer labs and media centers.
Can we monitor what students are doing on the iPads?
- Apple has bundled software called Apple Classroom that monitors student devices and simplifies classroom management. Technology Services is currently working on incorporating this new system.
Will students be safe/protected on the iPad?
- As a district device, they will have the same safety and security protocols as Chromebooks and student computers.
