#EldonSpringsForward Art Project

Help us honor a founding father of Eldon by creating one-of-a-kind works of art to be displayed in the Rock Island Depot.

"George Riley Weeks moved to Miller County in December, 1865 from Vermont. He was a prominent farmer. Mr. Weeks is considered the founding father of Eldon for he filed the original plat of Eldon and was instrumental in securing the right of way for the Missouri Pacific Bagnell Branch. He was also a member of the executive which secured the Rock Island Division in 1903" (Miller County Museum, 2010).

Mr. Weeks and his wife, Almira, platted our town on parchment paper on March 15, 1882. He saw an opportunity for prosperity for this area and worked with his wife to lay out a future that would span far beyond their lifetimes. In honor of Mr. Weeks' innovation, we'll spend the month of March celebrating the initiative we've seen in our small town throughout the past 140 years and into today.

You can get involved in the Small Town Big Heart Month of Service by participating in our #EldonSpringsForward Art Project. The Eldon High School Art Department designed coloring sheets for elementary students to color and submit to the contest. Those are accessible below. We'd also love to invite others to design and submit their own works of art honoring Mr. Weeks and the past, present, and future of Eldon. Projects will be reviewed upon submission. Some will be selected to display in the new Rock Island Depot.
