THE WINE TRADE

The Romans began transporting amphoras by boat, all over the Mediterranean, in the 6th century. In the 17th century, they discovered, the more alcohol, the more trips. In the Middle Ages they began to store their wines in dark places. In 1946 phylloxera began threatening the vines, killing them. In 1970 they began to become champagne.

CAULDRON

Greek origin. It was a container for distilling wine and obtaining hot water, thanks to its distributed degrees of evaporation.

HALF BORDER

Your belly was good for carrying, and for it to roll, and it is also a protection.

BOCOIS SCALE

They used it to weigh the bocoi, because when they wanted to sell it, they weighed a liter.

WHY DO THE AMPHORS HAVE THIS POINTED SHAPE ?


Because when transporters took the amphors by boat and arrived on the beach, it was best to keep them standing instead of laying. The shape also made it easier to store amphorae inside boats.
