What is the SITE Summer Institute?
The SITE Summer Institute is a multi-day workshop-based seminar that takes place in August at El Camino College. The theme of the Institute changes each year but is based on a central inquiry question.
Central Inquiry Question for 2019-2020
"How do we re-frame our beliefs to eliminate inequitable practices and to cultivate authentic learning?"
Central Inquiry Question for 2018-2019
"What do we know and what do we want to know about how people learn?"
The SITE Summer Institute was designed to create a community of instructors at the beginning of the academic year in order to stimulate an ongoing dialogue that is based on the factors that contribute to student success.
During the institute, participants hear from guest speakers, the SITE facilitators, and each other to...
At the end of the SITE Summer Institute and as part of Professional Development Day, participants form interdisciplinary focused learning communities (FLCs) to explore aspects of the central question more deeply over the course of the academic year and through the lens of their choosing.
FLCs then create, implement, and evaluate activities for their classrooms and share their learning with the campus community at the end of the academic year.
