How long does the course take?
All of the courses at St. Isidore Learning Centre are organized into 16 modules, one for each week of the semester! It is good practice to follow this same schedule so you don't overwhelm yourself. However, we offer flexible learning and want you to follow the schedule that best fits you! When you begin your classes, it is a good idea to reach out to your teachers and discuss your plan with them.
How do I reach out to my teachers?
The easiest way is through email or Google Hangout using your EICS email account. You can also send a message to your teacher directly through Canvas.
Some teachers may host 'office hours' or synchronous learning for you to participate in. Make sure to check how your specific classes are running!
How often will I interact with my teacher?
We speak with many students to answer questions or help guide them through a concept nearly every day, while some other students prefer a more hands-off approach with us talking once or twice a week. The interactions with each student varies with need!
How do I access exam codes?
Your teacher will pass on exam codes once you are ready to write your exam. Remember, your midterm and final exams will be ran differently. We use online Proctorio as well to secure our exams.
How do important exams like midterms and finals work?
When you are ready, your teacher will arrange and appropriate time and place for your exam. If you live in the greater Edmonton area, you will come into the SILC Centre to write. If you are out of town, you and your teacher will make appropriate arrangements.
What tools will I need to participate in class?
A Chromebook, laptop or desktop is required to be successful. iPads, tablets and phones are always reliable with the Canvas LMS platform. Webcams on devices are an asset.
You should also have a device to upload images or scans of written work (this can be done on most cell phones!).
Do the classes use textbooks?
This is something determined on a class-by-class basis. Once enrolled, take a look at your course syllabus or contact your teacher to find out if a textbook is required for your course(s)! If your courses require textbooks, you can come and sign them out from the Learning Centre. You can always have them mailed for a fee, too.
