Have the students come in and get out their chromebooks. They will need them for the lesson. Also, have them find a partner they can talk to and share with for this lesson

Have the students pair share and then ask for some students to share out (5 minutes)
2.Have the students read the poem about technology use titled “Stupid Blue Screen”
For this part you can have them read it with their partners, have them popcorn read it with the whole class, you can read it to them, or have them read it by themselves.
When they are done reading, ask the students to share their feelings with the teacher about social media. If you want to have it be private, have them close their eyes or do like heads up seven up and put their heads down on the desk, but ask them to share their true feelings about social media by rating how they feel using it between 1 and 5. Five would be great, one would be horrible. (5 - 7 minutes)
3.Have the students read and discuss the infographic about social media with their partners. Ask them to come up with one thing the found interesting and one thing they felt stood out to them
Have them share three things on the google form:
their number from the previous section
what stood out to them from the infographic
what they found interesting from the infographic
Have them enter these three things into the google form (5 minutes)
4.Ask them to answer the following two questions with their partner. Tell them they should have the exact same answers on their form.
What conclusions can you draw from these statistics?
How do they compare to your personal experience?
When they have answered them, ask the students to find one other person to share their answers with in the class that is not their partner. This could be done out loud with the class or the teacher could allow the students to move around and share as they feel free to. (5 -7 minutes)
When they have finished the final part, have them pack up and get ready to leave for their next class.
Please share these links with your students so they can complete the lesson in the class:

Below is a note from the Family Engagement Crew
Valley is hoping to have the best turn-out yet for Open House on April 18th. To that end, we are hoping that all teachers will send out personalized Talking Points messages to the parents/guardians of their Viking Time students. This will be a little bit of work, but we are hoping that the personal touch will help parents and guardians see that we really, really, really want them to come and see what their students have been up to this year. To make things easier for you, here’s something you can cut and paste into Talking Points. Feel free to modify it. We’re hoping that if you spend a few minutes on this during each Viking Time day this week, it will be pretty fast and simple. Thank you for your consideration!
