Have the students come in and get out their chromebooks. They will need them for the lesson. Also, have them find a partner they can talk to and share with for this lesson

1.Ask the students, “How has the amount of or the way you use technology changed over the last two years?”

Have the students pair share and then ask for some students to share out (5 minutes)

2.Have the students make a quick list of all their digital habits with their partners. After they make the list have them put a plus or minus next to each habit (+ for a positive habit, - for a negative one) ( 3 to 5 minutes)

For this you can have them make a google doc or take out a piece of paper and write it down

3.Have the students read the short essay about The Challenge (add link later) (5 minutes)

For this part you can have them read it with their partners, have them popcorn read it with the whole class, you can read it to them, or have them read it by themselves.

4.Now ask them to work on their own for 5 minutes, choosing one of their digital habits they want to change or do differently. Have them share with their partner their habit they want to change and then have them figure out how they can help their partner with the change.

Have them enter the habit on the google form

Have them enter how they want to change it or how they want to do it differently

For the last part have them share their habit with their partner in class, and then write down how they can support their partner in changing their habit (7 - 10 mins total)

When they have finished the final part, have them pack up and get ready to leave for their next class.

Monday4/8-Smart Goals

Today's Viking time lesson is below , copies where delivered to you by Mrs. Dagan

Smart Goals

Below is a note from the Family Engagement Crew

Valley is hoping to have the best turn-out yet for Open House on April 18th. To that end, we are hoping that all teachers will send out personalized Talking Points messages to the parents/guardians of their Viking Time students. This will be a little bit of work, but we are hoping that the personal touch will help parents and guardians see that we really, really, really want them to come and see what their students have been up to this year.  To make things easier for you, here’s something you can cut and paste into Talking Points. Feel free to modify it. We’re hoping that if you spend a few minutes on this during each Viking Time day this week, it will be pretty fast and simple. Thank you for your consideration!

-The Family Engagement Crew

Good day Mr/Ms [parent/guardian name]. On Thursday, April 18th, Valley High is hosting Open House. This is an opportunity for you to come see what [student name] is doing in school. Please keep an eye out for more information about this fun event. There will be activities from 5:45-7:30. I hope to see you there! – [teacher name], [student name’s] Viking Time teacher.

Tuesday,4/9- Assembly by Conscious Assets

Today Students will be attending the assembly

Location: SMALL GYM

Today for Viking Time, please take attendance, then head to the SMALL Gym for a Financial Literacy Assembly given by Conscious Assets today.

Please stay to supervise your classes and assist in crowd control for the upmost respect given towards our presenters today.

Reminders: Students should have all electronic devices put away throughout the duration. Assembly will run the entire length of Viking Time.

Students should LEAVE backpacks in your classroom please for more space/seating and less distraction during the presentation

Wednesday,4/10-Pathways event Faciliated by Link Crew

Please take attendance. Please confirm that your freshmen know which pathway they will be in. Please explain that they are going to an event in the gym and set up expectations for behavior – participate, listen to the student leaders, stay with their group, etc.

At 1:15, please escort your students to the gym and direct them to go to the pathway they were assigned. Please do arrive before 1:15 (the Link Leaders will be setting up the gym until this time). Students may not bring backpacks to the gym.

Once they are with their group, they will be checked in with 5 star and they will receive a wristband that designates their pathway. Once the students are checked in, they will play games and get to know the other kids in their pathways.

This event will mostly be facilitated by seniors in Link Crew. There are not many senior Link Crew leaders, so they will need a lot of help from Freshmen Viking Time teachers with making sure students are making good choices. It will essentially be the entire freshmen class in the gym, so the student leaders will need a LOT of support to make this event go smoothly. Please supervise your students as best you can. I’d also love your help checking students in once all of your students are checked in. Please feel free to participate in the games as well.

At around 2:05, students will return to their Viking Time classes.
