Junior Digital Citizenship 1
Have the students come in and get out their Chromebooks. They will need them for the lesson. Also, have them find a partner they can talk to and share with for this lesson
1.Ask the students, “Are you addicted to anything in your life? Is there one thing you cannot make it through the day without?”
Have the students pair share and then ask for some students to share out (5 minutes)
2.Have the students view the photo collage moving from left to right on the screen and answer the questions on the google form of this lesson.
For this portion of the lesson, you can have the students work together or on their own. The three questions they are answering are: What do you see in this collection of photographs? What is your impression or interpretation of the collection of photographs? How does the collection of photos make you feel? (5 minutes)
3.Have the students pair share the answers to the following questions: What do you think the artist was hoping to show and Do you agree with what the artist is trying to show?
Ask the students to share their thoughts on the two questions. Before having them share, tell them you are asking what they think, so as long as they answer something other than nonsense they cannot get it wrong. (5 - 7 minutes)
4.For the final part of this lesson, have the students address the following two questions on the google form by themselves:
Am I addicted to technology? Am I more or less connected to the world now than my parents were when they were my age?
For both of these statements have them use the sentence starters below (5 mins)
I (am/am not) addicted to technology because …
I am (more/less) connected to the world now than my parents were when they were my age because…
5.When they have finished the final part, have them pack up and get ready to leave for their next class.
Please share these links with your students so they can complete the lesson in the class:

Below is a note from the Family Engagement Crew
Valley is hoping to have the best turn-out yet for Open House on April 18th. To that end, we are hoping that all teachers will send out personalized Talking Points messages to the parents/guardians of their Viking Time students. This will be a little bit of work, but we are hoping that the personal touch will help parents and guardians see that we really, really, really want them to come and see what their students have been up to this year. To make things easier for you, here’s something you can cut and paste into Talking Points. Feel free to modify it. We’re hoping that if you spend a few minutes on this during each Viking Time day this week, it will be pretty fast and simple. Thank you for your consideration!
