What is distance learning? 

Distance learning is an alternative learning and educational service plan in which the student and teacher are in different locations. The teachers have the option to communicate with you and your child by a phone call, email, StudentVUE/ParentVUE, video chat, and/or text.

What is Google Classroom and how does Google Classroom work? 

Google Classroom is an online platform where all teachers grades 1st - 12th will post their assignments. Teachers will also communicate with students through Google Classroom, and provide a daily Google Form to take attendance. 

Where can I access my child's textbooks? 

Most of your student's textbooks can be found on the EGUSD Classlink portal. You can find this by logging in as follows: portal.egusd.net. Once there, your student will login either automatically - if the portal has been used before, or with their student login account. Once logged in, your student will see apps that are connected to the textbooks. 

My child is an English Learner. What support is available? 

TK-Kindergarten students will get a calendar of activities to support their English language acquisition, focusing on speaking and listening. 

1st-12th grade teachers have English Language Development (ELD) lessons to provide students with through Google Classroom. EL Instructional coaches are supporting teachers with lessons. Bilingual Teaching Associates (BTAs) can support newcomer students virtually. Please note that the state has suspended the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC). 

My child is struggling with anxiety during this time. What resources can we access to help my child? 

The school district has created this Family and Community Resources Website. Visit the social emotional resources and tools page to assist in helping calm anxiety during this time.

How can my child access EGUSD’s ClassLink Portal?

You can access the ClassLink Portal directly at: http://portal.egusd.net or through your child's school website, or the EGUSD website.

The below FAQs are specific to EGUSD issued loaner Chromebooks

How do I pick up a Chromebook? 

Each school site has Chromebooks and a unique process for checking out devices as needed. Schools are sending information to parents on the process for their specific school. 

What if I don't have Internet connectivity at home?

If you do not have Internet connectivity at home, EGUSD is working with T-Mobile to acquire hot spots for families that need it. These hotspots will only work with EGUSD Chromebooks.

If you are unable to have home internet access, the district may provide families hotspots. These hotspots only work with EGUSD issued Chromebooks. If you need a hotspot, complete this form

Does my child have to use a Chromebook? What other devices will work? 

Devices you currently have at home that connect to the Internet should be sufficient for student work. For example, your devices can be a Windows PC, Mac, Chromebook, Linux PC, or an iPad.

Where can I find a copy of the EGUSD Chromebook Agreement? 

How will students login to EGUSD Chromebooks? 

Students will use their district issued accounts to log into the Chromebook. Students or family members will not be able to use a personal Google account to login. 

What if a student forgets the password to their EGUSD Google account? 

Students should contact their teacher for assistance if they forgot their password. 

How do I reset/change my student password?

Will EGUSD Chromebooks still be filtered when used at home? 

Yes. The district works diligently to ensure that each student has a safe learning environment while using the Internet. Regardless of its location, each Chromebook is configured to connect to the district’s web filtering system prior to accessing the Internet. Our web filtering is updated on a regular basis in order to ensure your student has maximum protection while online. While the software filter protects students in most cases, the best filter is adult supervision and students making good choices, being responsible digital citizens

Are the cameras and microphones on EGUSD Chromebooks disabled? 

No. Use of the camera and microphone are limited and will only work with district approved conferencing applications. Students may only use the camera and microphone with district approved conferencing applications. 

Can students download apps onto EGUSD Chromebooks? 

No. Students do not have access to Google Play to download apps. Access to the Chrome web store is limited and students will not be able to add extensions or add-ons to the web browser. 

Since some EGUSD teachers will be using Zoom with students using EGUSD Chromebooks, what precautions has the District taken? 

How do I return my Chromebook? 

If you are disenrolling or upon graduating, you must return your Chromebook to your school site. Please contact your school site to coordinate the return of your device.
