Agencies and Resources
Partnering with, and accessing the support of community groups can have long lasting impacts on children and their families. Many of these organizations allow families to connect with each other provide advice in navigating the many services that can be available to families. The goal is to reduce barriers for the whole family.
AgENCies and Community Groups
Alta California Regional Center - a non-profit working with the state to provide services to persons age 3 and older with developmental disabilities. Application process required
Department of Rehabilitation - a state agency working with individuals with disabilities on the goal of employment and independent living
GiGi's Playhouse - Sacramento location of international Down Syndrome Achievement Centers providing a variety of free programs for individuals with Down syndrome, families and community support systems
EGUSD Community Advisory Committee - committee of parents/caregivers
Resources for Independent Living - a local service-providing agency, often staffed by disabled folks, providing information and support on resource navigation, advocacy, independent living skills, peer counseling, etc.
State Council on Developmental Disabilities - state agency tasked with ensuring people with developmental disabilities and their families receive the services and support they need
Supported Life Institute - local non-profit offering educational and training opportunities focused on improving the quality of life for people with disabilities; special focus on communication (CTEC) and Peer Advocacy Connection
UC Davis Sankofa (African American Developmental Disabilities Alliance) - for African America/Black families
UC Davis Vamos a platicar; CEDD Padres para Padres - Spanish language family support
Warmline - Family Resource Center supporting caregivers of children with disabilities from birth to 22 years old
WeEMBRACE - local nonprofit providing a variety of events, seminars and trainings for individuals with disabilities are their families/caregivers
Yo Disabled and Proud - funded through the state, organizes and educates youth with disabilities to support continued disability rights movement, advocacy, disability pride, and disability community

AP Connect Center (Blind or Low Vision) - Free info and resources to support individuals who are blind or low vision
Disability Rights Education & Defense Fund - founded in 1979, a federally funded (PTI) national civil rights law and policy center providing training end education, legal advocacy, and public policy and legislative development
Parents Helping Parents - federally funded (PTI) providing an extensive offering in person (San Jose area) and virtual opportunities for caregivers and support teams on topics such as family mentorship, assistive technology, SSI, IHSS, transition after 12th grade, and a variety of other topics
