Our classes will be engaging with topics and content from across subject areas through a land-based learning approach. Our Pond Study will span the year allowing students to closely observe local natural surroundings, collect information, make connections, and share their learning in a variety of ways. Through field studies, research, and investigation, students will deepen their understanding of how the elements of these ecosystem fit together and how this place is valued and used by our community.

OUR FIRST POND VISIT

For our first visit, students took the time to experience this place, focussing on using their senses to make detailed observations. They captured these observations through writing and sketching.

OUR SECOND POND VISIT

For our second visit to the pond, students took time to focus on different elements within the pond ecosystem. The Grade 6 students took time to investigate and compare the Deciduous and Coniferous Trees that grow around the pond. They made careful sketches of different parts of the tree to use later on during in class work. Our Grade 7 students took a closer look at the pond, and specifically concentrated on the water within the pond that is important to the ecosystem around.

Our Third Pond Visit

For our third visit to the pond, students took time to focus on different elements within the pond ecosystem. Our Grade 6 students took a closer look at the pond, and specifically concentrated on the water within the pond that is important to the ecosystem around.

Our Fourth Pond Visit

This is our first Pond Visit of 2022! What a change the environment has gone through over the seasons. Students took an opportunity to reflect on these changes, and how these changes effect the natural habitat around it.

Our Fifth Pond Visit

This week our students visited the Creek in Panorama Hills to take part in a "Sit Spot" activities. Students were asked to think about the land around them in its natural state. What are some differences between the Creek and the Manicured Pond area.
