• Below you will find a slideshow on the Wet’suwet’en solidarity movement made by an artist which illustrates a point of view. Please read through this presentation and view it as ONE example of the many perspectives on this issue. Now that you are finished steps 1 and 2 of the news article task, begin structuring your argument for task #3. (Short essay)

Collect all important facts. This will require reading some interviews, media articles and first hand accounts. BE OBJECTIVE. You will want to reference your knowledge of the collective rights of Canada’s Indigenous peoples.

Artist Statement Expectations for Interstellar Poster:

• The Rationale: why you chose the image you created with the text you selected. (Justify your evaluation of the film. Why is this IMPORTANT?)
• Please seek to include personal interpretation of the film in your written explanation.
• Explain your colour choices

• Explain your inclusion or exclusion of visual elements in order to communicate a particular mood/message

Wednesday Writing Activity: Guiding Questions

• What does the metaphor “Be Water” mean? Use examples from Bruce Lee’s speech in both videos.
• Re-read the letter on brain pickings and think of a time in your life when this might have come in handy to you. When was this time? Were you true to yourself or did you feel that being like someone else would lead to more success in this moment?
• In what area of your life do you feel confident in embracing your true self?
• "Your goals are a map for taking action, and once you are on your journey to your goals, you might realize that you want different things and decide to change course. That is why being fluid and not fixating on the goal is key because it is the journey to the goal that helps you cultivate yourself." What does this mean? Can you give an example of a time when you were working to achieve a goal and you ended up having fun in the process/journey? What about a time when you realized afterwards that you forgot to enjoy the process/journey?

Choose one of the following essay topics and write a 1000 word essay on the topic.

1. How has hope/fear helped you form a closer bond with someone?

2. When it comes to protecting language, whose responsibility is it, everyone's or the individuals? Why?

Assignment in two parts

Part A

Please choose one of the following options to complete for your written composition.

Your writing should be a minimum of 500 words.

1. Do some research on teleportation. Give a detailed description of whether it can be or is being done. Describe, to the best of your ability, what theoretically would have to happen to transport a human being.

2. Write a manifesto (a public declaration of policy and aims, especially one issued before an election by a political party or candidate) about the state of our planet, including real data, and appealing to our capacities for Hope and Fear. You will describe why we need to preserve this rock so that in the future we don’t need to abandon it in search of resources elsewhere in space.

3. Write a detailed account of what Ricky saw and experienced when he ‘Jaunted’. This should read like a story extracted from within the actual short story, most likely told in first person perspective. Do some research to incorporate a basic understanding of teleportation. This is a fertile opportunity to explore what lives in the depths of human (a child’s) consciousness.

Part B

Please choose one of the following options to complete for your visual composition. Your materials include a 12"x18" sheet of heavy weight paper and whatever media you wish to use. Pencil, colored pencils, watercolor paint, collage, 3D materials, glue guns, etc. (Let us know what you need)

1. Create a drawing of what Ricky saw that made him claw his eyes out.

2. Create an image which depicts your greatest fear.

3. Stephen King is an incredibly vivid writer. Create a scene from the story which you felt was exceptionally well described or ‘illustrated’ with language

4. Create an image which depicts the Utopian or Dystopian future that ‘Jaunting’ would afford the citizens of Earth if it were to become a reality.
