*This week will be the last week of our small groups. I will explain at Friday's class meeting what our Google Meets will look like for the last 2 weeks of school!

Literacy

This week, we will be working on an "Invent an Insect" task. Later on this week, you will be using the insect that you invent as a character in a comic that you'll be writing.

As a first step, for today, please check out the short video that explains today's task, and view the slides with the example and criteria for your insect. Then... time to create! Remember to be intentional about your design choices. You might want to consider:

-How does your insect protect itself?

-How does it eat? Does it chew like a caterpillar, or have a long tongue to drink like a butterfly?

-Is it fuzzy, or smooth? Why?

-Does it walk, fly or hop?

-What kinds of eyes does it have? How many?

Please send me a photo of your completed insect, with its name through Drive by the end of the day :)

Math

This week, we will be starting an ongoing math task that reviews most of the concepts we've worked on so far this year in grade 2. We will be using the theme of going on a camping trip! Today's task is going to review the skills of:

-Calendar

-Ordinal Numbers (first, 2nd, third, 10th, etc.)

You might remember the task we did with mapping out "Buddy the Elf's December" around Christmas. This task is similar. On the sheet below, you are given a list of camping activities that we are pretending your family is doing for the month of July. Your job is to plot each of these events on the July 2020 calendar (sheet and calendar posted below). I don't know about you, but reading through these activities makes me want to go on a camping trip! Have fun!
