At the SMU Lyle School of Engineering, students are encouraged across all fields of study to “Think Big, Do Good.” At Lyle, that mission directive calls us to fulfill our role as builders, creators, researchers, and innovators of the highest caliber. Our enterprising spirit forges new pathways and encourages students to boldly solve problems on a global scale, from developing distribution plans that ensure access to clean water to inventing pH sensors that predict when food has spoiled in real time.
To those who dare to think boldly, SMU Lyle ignites powerful minds to tackle problems that matter. Future engineers must assume greater roles in shaping society, they must have a deeper understanding of the world in which they live and they must bring a new passion and sense of activism to the most pressing problems of our day – wherever these challenges are found.
The Lyle School of Engineering curricula includes programs in civil engineering, computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering and management science. In 2000, a variety of programs were introduced to provide a combination of traditional engineering curriculum and selected leadership coursework designed to train engineering students for futures in management, entrepreneurship and beyond.
