Staff at TCPS have been busy preparing some resources and videos to help answer any questions you may have and to provide reassurance that we are happily preparing for a different, but fantastic transition program for our new Preps.
We have created a video full of information for families all about Prep. You will meet some of our TCPS staff and hear about the areas listed below:
Principal welcome
What is transition
Prep interviews and the beginning of the year
Home group construction
Prep curriculum and Developmental Play
Preparing your child for school
We have created a social story to share with your children. This will show them what their transition day could look like and may also answer some of their questions.
We have been speaking to the kinder teachers to ensure that your child has a smooth start at school, and will use this information about friends and familiar faces to construct our home groups, and do all that we can to support each child.
We look forward to seeing you all very soon!
Our Prep Transition Program consists of four transition visits during December and January, and ideally, we hope to see your child attend each of them. This will give us the best opportunity to get to know each child, their individual personalities and needs, and will help to assist us as they start their schooling journey. Of course, it will also give your child a chance to familiarize themselves more with our school and specifically, the Prep Learning Community. Each session lasts for 90 minutes and we gradually get children to be independent with the transition visits.
Future Prep students to meet in our Central Plaza where they will be collected by our Prep teachers. There will be signs to direct you towards the correct door.
Future Prep students will exit the Prep neighbourhood to meet their parents in the Central Plaza for collection.
Please make sure your child has a hat, snack and drink bottle on the day. Uniform is not required however future students are more than welcome to wear uniform if they wish.
Transition day gives students an experience in their neighbourhood with their teacher staff, but they will not be in home groups.
