Physical Education

  • Physical Education is taught for 1 hour every week

  • Classroom teachers are encouraged to take their students outside for additional games and physical activities when possible

  • Physical Education is planned for with a clear focus in mind

  • Units of work are designed to start with simple tasks and progress student skill levels by providing stimulating and challenging activities

  • The school's Physical Education curriculum is designed to develop students fundamental motor skills in early years (P-2) and progress these skills into sports specific skills in years 3-6

  • Physical Education aims to be enjoyable for all students and non-confronting games and activities are used

  • The Physical Education program incorporates a range of sports and activities to develop students skills

  • A wide range of equipment is used in a variety of settings including outside on the schools oval and inside in the gymnasium

  • Students in years 3-6 have the opportunity to participate in a range of interschool sports and competitions including swimming, athletics and lightning premiership events

  • Assessment of all students is undertaken regularly and is used to monitor student improvements

  • The ultimate goal of Physical Education is to prepare students for a 'lifetime of physical activity'

  • Students are encouraged to participate in physical activity outside of school hours

Music

  • We learn to listen to the beat, rhythm and tune in music

  • We use voice as our main instrument, and we practice "in tune singing"

  • We learn to read and write music

  • We use French time names (ta and te te) to describe rhythm

  • We use solfa names (doh, re, me) and hand signs to describe tune

  • We learn to play musical instruments in small and large groups

  • We use tuned instruments such as marimba, recorders and, ukuleles

  • We use untuned percussion such as drums, tambourines and shakers

  • We use our skills to read, write and perform our own compositions

  • We learn drama and dance skills, which we use in performances

  • We use Musical Futures methods to play and learn popular music

  • We use "rock band" instruments such as drum kit, bass and guitar in upper grades

  • We learn to use our listening skills and musical experience to make informed decisions in music.

Art

  • We learn Visual Art skills in grades Prep to Six

  • We learn to use a wide range of materials in our artwork

  • We use drawing, painting, sculpture, textiles and other techniques to express our ideas in creative ways

  • We have a sequential skills based visual art program at Lara Lake Primary School

  • We have specialist Visual Arts lessons in a purpose built Art room

  • We have classroom based art which enhances our theme based work

  • We have vibrant displays of our Art work around the school, including a fabulous student/teacher created wall mosaic featuring Lara's wonderful bird life, at the front of the school
