Soccer - Lesson 2 - Ball Control and Footwork
Equipment needed:
a soccer ball
a family member to pass to/or a wall outside of your home
Warm Up
Complete the Warm Up activity by watching the video and following along. Complete the task for 30 seconds.
Activity 1 - Trapping
You can either use a family member to pass the ball to you or you can kick a ball up against a wall.
Make sure if is an outside wall!!!
When the ball rolls over to you, place your foot on top of the ball so the ball comes to a stop under your foot. Practice this 20 times for each foot.
Activity 2 - Inside Out
Move the ball back and forth using the inside and outside of your foot. Practice this with both feet. Do this for 2-3 minutes with both feet. The more you practice, the more skilful you will become and the better control you will have.
Activity 3 - Juggling
This one is a bit tricky. Start by holding the ball, dropping it in front of you so that it bounces, then kick it up so that you can try to catch it.
When you master this, try do complete multiple kicks or even kick bounce, kick bounce, kick bounce etc.
If you become a champion at that, see if you can continuously juggle the ball by completing small kicks with your foot over and over again.
What!!
You've smashed that! Now try to use different parts of your body to keep the ball up and off the ground. Use your feet, knees, chest, head and shoulders. Remember, there is no hands on the ball in soccer, so keep your arms out of the way of the ball.
Activity 4 - Toe Taps
A bit like the warm up, we want to try and tap our toes on the ball. This time, we want to have a go at toe taps whilst moving the ball forwards. Have a go at this for 2-3 minutes.
If you get good at moving forwards, have a go at moving the ball and toe tapping whilst moving backwards.
Activity 5 - The Scissors
Practice moving the ball like you were in the Inside Out activity. This time, lift your foot up and over and around the ball. Practice moving your foot around the ball in a clockwise direction as well as an anti-clockwise direction. And remember, practice on both feet!
Challenge - The Rainbow Flick
If you can master this, you can master anything! Watch the video and see if you can copy Kale's movements to master the Rainbow Flick.
Assessment
We would like you to upload a short 30 second video of you completing each of the 6 activities. We are coming up to reporting time and Mark and I need to see how you are all progressing with your movement and skill development. Failure to take part or upload your work will be reflected in your reports.
Enjoy the video and the activities.
