In the last example in Chair Drumming Volume 1 'Take On Me' the tempo changes. Look at the definitions of some tempo terms below and decide which one describes what happens to the tempo in 'Take On Me'.
Accelerando: gradually faster
Ritenuto: immediately slower
Rallentando: gradually slower
In groups of 5, develop your own drumming pattern as a group. Consider the rhythmic pattern of all three components of the drum kit (kick drum, snare drum and hi-hat). 4 members of your group are to repeatedly play your group's rhythm and the fifth member is to conduct the group. The conductor should indicate the following:
a) at least four bars in a row with a steady beat
b) an accelerando
c) a ritenuto
d) a rallentando
Perform your composition for the class.
