Overview Of Networks

A basic computer network consists of a collection of hardware devices that is connected with one another so that they can communicate among themselves.

Networks are normally made up of:

  • Switches - A network switch forwards data packets between devices. Switches send packets directly to devices, rather than sending them to networks like a router does.

  • Routers - A router is a physical or virtual appliance that passes information between two or more packet-switched computer networks.
