Not only do we focus on providing a high quality, well-rounded education for our students at Bobs Farm PS, we also value the quality of educators who lead our classrooms. That is why we actively participate in the University of Newcastle teaching practicum program.
For the past four weeks, we have hosted third year students, Mrs Honor and Miss Forbes. It was a privilege to welcome them into our school community and to help provide them an opportunity to experience teaching in a small school setting. We know the students really enjoyed learning from and with them. We hope, when they have completed their degrees, we'll be able to see them back here teaching. In the meantime, we wish the all the best in their studies and careers ahead.
The students in K-1-2 recently enjoyed the opportunity to extend their classroom learning about transport by getting a hands-on experience at Fighterworld and the Williamtown RAAF base. Greeted by what seemed like a personal welcome of several pairs of Joint Strike Fighters taking off literally overhead, the day got off to an exciting start. Inside, students were able to climb in the cockpit of planes, touch and feel a real ejection seat, get a close-up look at uniforms and decommissioned aircraft and hear from current and ex-working servicemen.
Moving next door from the old to the new, the group was chaperoned through the security gates, led on a lengthy convoy of cars to the specially renamed Bobs Farm Public School RAAF training facility. There they were 'trained' by Hodgy in how to deconstruct and rebuild plane engines, see what a brand new cockpit looks like and how to build the ultimate paper aeroplane.
What a great opportunity it was, and a special privilege to be able to tour part of the RAAF base usually off-limits to the public. Thank you to Mrs and Mrs Hodgson for taking the students on such an interesting and engaging excursion.
