Length - Measuring the length of our insects provides a good insight to the speed of growth that our insects are going through in the enclosure. As purple winged stick insects mature, they can grow in length up to 900 millimeters!
Weight - measuring our insects not only gives us well, the measurements, but also allows us to give a comparison and scale our insects! As shown in the first week, our insects on an average of 0.1 grams. Did you know that is the same weight as the trims of a paper, or an average packet of sugar?
Colour - Choosing to collect the data and measurements of the colour of the insects can describe the changes that the insects go through as they age.
Length - Since our insects move much more quickly than the other species, we let them climb on the ruler, and measure them when they stay still.
Weight - We measure the container we use first then we put one insect in a container. Whatever the weight results in, we subtract the initial container weight from that to draw the weight conclusion.
Colour - We do our best to evaluate the colour hues of the insects, as Sharon and Athena are art students who have studied colour theory.
We have concluded that five insects out of approximately 40 is a good sample to estimate the average for all of our insects.
