Agriculture is a subject that offers unique experiences for school students. Students do not require prior experience with agriculture or farming. They will learn useful practical skills that will enhance class work and make it more interesting and more relevant. The course is based on production systems at the school farm and in commercial agriculture. Throughout this course, there is an emphasis on sustainable agriculture and the Australian environment. The subject aims to develop the individual by fostering responsibility and self-esteem. Students interested in careers in Agronomy, Animal production, Management, Plant production, Agricultural Research, Agribusiness, TAS Teaching, Landscape Gardening and Rural Employment will benefit from this course.
The Agriculture course offers students the opportunity to:
Learn a wide range of practical farming skills
Become competent in livestock husbandry
Prepare WWHS Show team sheep, beef and poultry for market and showing
Propagate plants
Develop skills in farm management
Undertake industry excursions

The study of Food Technology provides students with a broad knowledge and understanding of food properties, processing and preparation. Students will learn about consumption and consequences of food choices on health, the role of food in society as well as new developments and trends in food.

Graphics is a key communication skill in technology throughout the world and is used in many areas of employment. The practical skills gained in this course can be of benefit in a number of other subjects, as well as having vocational applications.
A wide range of mainly computer based methods are used to produce a variety of graphics. Areas of study include:
House designing plus site planning and modelling in Autodesk Revit
Engineering drawing and 3D modelling of parts and products in Autodesk Inventor or OnShape
Graphic design of posters and logos in Adobe Illustrator
Free choice student projects such as computer animation, Adobe Photoshop, etc.
This course provides excellent preparation for senior Design and Technology, Multimedia, Engineering Studies and VET courses. Students interested in careers in Architecture, Graphic Design, Engineering, Building and Metal trades, or TAS Teaching will benefit from this course.

Industrial technology – Engineering provides opportunities for students to develop knowledge and skills in relation to engineering and its associated industries.
Modules of work allow students to develop knowledge and skills in the use of materials, tools and techniques related to control systems structures, alternate energy and mechanisms. These are enhanced and further developed through the production of practical projects. These may include:
Small structures
Solar vehicles and wind generators
A range of devices and appliances
Electronic and mechanical control systems
This course would suit students who are good at Mathematics and/or Science and have an interest in how things are built and work.
Assessment: students will be assessed on all components of their work including practical projects and engineering reports.

Metal is a key material of technology and has many important uses within daily life. Metal related industries provide full time employment to around 170,000 people in NSW alone making it the largest provider of full time employment in the state.
Students undertaking this practical based course can experience working with a number of different metals using a wide range of techniques which include the use of hand and machine tools, welding and oxy cutting, shaping, joining and finishing methods.

Students can use this course as a base for senior Design and Technology and VET courses.

The Multimedia focus area provides opportunities for students to develop knowledge and skills in relation to multimedia, and associated industries.
Multimedia is the fastest growing industry across the globe and this course will help you to gain an understanding of the key areas of the industry. This subject will assist students develop their time management skills by designing and producing Multimedia projects.
Practical projects reflect the nature of the Multimedia focus area and provide opportunities for students to develop specific knowledge, understanding and skills related to multimedia technologies. These include:

Games Design & Animation
This subject provides a good platform for those who wish to study Multimedia in Stage 6 or are wishing to pursue a career in the graphic design or multimedia industries.

Timber is a renewable resource that has been of great value to humans throughout history. This practical based course introduces students to modern timber products, tools and techniques, while maintaining traditional concepts of craftsmanship and pride in work completed. The projects made in the course enable students to develop the knowledge and skills to confidently work with timber.

Industrial technology offers a balance of practical skills and academic challenge to suit any ability level.

The study of Textiles Technology provides students with knowledge of the properties, performance and uses of textiles. They explore fabrics, yarns, fibres and colouration. Students examine the historical, cultural and contemporary perspectives on textile design and develop an appreciation of the factors affecting them as textile consumers. Students investigate the work of textile designers and make judgements about the appropriateness of design ideas, the selection of materials and tools, and the quality of textile items.
Textile projects give students the opportunity to be creative, independent learners and to explore functional and aesthetic aspects of textiles.
The projects made in the course enable students to develop the knowledge and skills to confidently work with textile consumables.
