Welcome

Pulse Sunraysia is a program designed to provide high-quality arts experiences for public school students in the Sunraysia area who, due to distance, don’t always have the same access as metropolitan students to arts experiences.

NSW Department of Education Arts Unit staff, tutors and choreographers will run two days of workshops in a variety of performing arts forms in Sunraysia culminating in a performance showcase for families, schools and friends to be held at Mildura Arts Centre

Two important aims for this program and our team:

Students of all backgrounds and abilities are encouraged to be involved.

Workshops

Schools have the option of asking students to select the workshop they would like to participate in.

All students from the same school do not have to be in the same workshop unless that is the decision the school makes for ease of participation. Students can only participate in one workshop.

All students will be involved in the performance finale.  This will be rehearsed during the workshop sessions.

We plan to offer workshops in the following areas. The resulting workshops will be based on school nominations. Should any workshop area not receive sufficient nominations, it may not run.

Please see the Pulse Sunraysia Workshop page for a more in-depth breakdown of the workshops on offer.

Venues

Pulse Sunraysia Performances will be held at Mildura Arts Centre.

Workshops will take place at local schools and venues.

Please see the Pulse Sunraysia Venues page for more details of the venues for the workshops and performances.

School Items

As well as participation in the workshop program, schools can nominate to present a school-based item in the performance showcase e.g. a school band, or music/dance group.

Staffing

Schools are asked to provide enough staff to cover the duty of care for their students participating.  Supervision of students during the workshops can be shared across schools.  Schools with small groups of students attending multiple workshops do not require a staff member to supervise every workshop.

Please also bring a First Aid Kit as you would on a local excursion.

Teacher workshops

The tutors running workshops for Pulse Sunraysia will be available on the Tuesday afternoon from 3:45 pm until 4:45 pm for a teacher workshop, to discuss devising process for creative arts. Nominations for these workshops should be made on the Pulse Sunraysia school nomination form.

Student behaviour

Pulse Sunraysia is a Department of Education event and as such, like at school, all students are expected to abide by the Department’s Behaviour Code for Students. Students are representing themselves, their families and their school whilst on while participating.

COVID-19

Please note: Pulse Sunraysia is required to be held in accordance with any current NSW Health COVID-19 Public Health Orders and the NSW Department of Education’s policies and procedures. By sending your child on the tour you acknowledge and accept that there is a risk that your child may be exposed to COVID-19 whilst attending and participating in the tour.
