Types of support

This can come from people such as relatives, friends and neighbours

Relatives provide and receive support and assistance from family members who may or may not reside in the same household

Friends and neighbours may also provide support and assistance e.g. sharing child minding duties

Comes mostly from government agencies or community organisations e.g. childcare facilities, financial assistance (Centrelink), employment agencies

The need for these formal supports may vary throughout an individual's lifespan and a family's life cycle
