Draw the proportions of the face in your Visual Arts Diary - include the guidelines in colour, and the face in black/pencil. At least 15cm in height.
2. Write down some key rules about facial proportions from the image above.
3. Divide a page in your Visual Arts Diary into 4 quarters. Nose, Eyes, Mouth and Facial Proportions.
Follow the videos below and draw along in using a LEAD PENCIL :) You can do several attempts. DO NOT CROSS OUT UNSUCCESSFUL DRAWINGS - it is important to witness your own growth.
Complete an accurate recreation of your photo in your Visual Arts Diary – focusing on details, and experimenting with different grades of pencil (HB, 4B, 6B, 9B). You MUST use more than 2 grades of pencil.
Lighting Experiments
Take a photo of yourself with 4 different directions of light. Try to keep your pose and camera angle consistent.
Send them to your computer – email perhaps? Airdrop? Friend’s help? You may use your phone for this if you need.
Draw 4 rectangles on a page in your Visual Arts Diary and draw a symbol to show the direction of the light source.
Focus on paying attention to SHADOWS and HIGHLIGHTS – not necessarily details of facial features.
Self Portrait
Bring together the skills you have developed so far, and create an expressive self portrait drawing on a page in your VAD. Look at the examples below for inspiration, paying attention to the detail and shading, as well as texture created by the pencil. Aim to almost fill the page.
