Child Studies is an elective course that is studied for 100 or 200 hours in Years 9 and 10 Stage 5 level.

Course Description

The Child Studies course provides knowledge, skills and opportunities for students to develop a caring attitude to assist in roles as parent or child careers in the future. It is extremely relevant to Year 9 and 10 student age group. Modules have been designed for the students at Northlakes High School.

What will students learn about?

Students will learn about family planning (contraception), pregnancy, birth, babies and children and specialised area of childcare such as caring for children with special needs and issues in childcare.

·     Children's Health

·     Child Development

·     Caring for Children

·     Children with Special Needs

·     Issues in Childcare

What will students learn to do?

Students will become more aware of personal issues relating to contraception and pregnancy and the caring and development of children that will assist in their chosen career paths. We have three virtual reality babies which allow students to gain hands-on practical experiences relating to babies' demands and needs.

Record of Student Achievement (RoSA)

Satisfactory completion of 100 or 200 hours of study in Child Studies during Stage 5 (Years 9 and 10) will be recorded with a grade on the Record of Student Achievement.
