Duration: 2:31
You will need:
coloured pencils
a workbook or paper
Imagine your family agreed to give you some pocket money every day for a month!
You can choose from the following options:
Option 1: $10 every day
Option 2: $3 on the first day, $3.50 on the second, $4 on the third, and so on, increasing by 50 cents each day
Option 3: 1 cent on the first day, 2 cents on the second, 4 cents on the third, and so on, doubling each day.
Without doing any working out, which option would you choose and why?
Write down your choice.
If you can, explain your choice to someone at home.
If your family stopped your pocket money on day 8, which option would give you the most amount of money?
In which months would option 1 be better than option 2?
If you chose option 3, how many days would it be before you became a millionaire?
Start with option 1.
How much are you given on day 1?
How much are you given on day 2? How much do you have altogether?
How much are you given on day 3? How much do you have altogether?
How much are you given on day 4? How much do you have altogether?
How much are you given on day 5? How much do you have altogether?
Continue on through the 31 days.
Now try the same with option 2 and option 3.
You might like to draw up a table, like the one below, to help you keep track of these calculations.
