Spin each spinner to select a robot body part.
Copy and drag the robot parts together to create your robot.
Spin again.
Hint! If you spin the same body part combinations spin again.
Stop after 10 spins. How many complete and unique robots do you have?
Predict how many complete and unique robots you will have after 20 spins.
Spin the spinners 10 more times.
Grouping robots
The next Polypad shows some of the different robots that may have been created.
How can you sort these robots?
Label how you have created your groupings.

Do we have them all?
Duration: 1:29
Go back to your Polypad where you grouped your robots.
Add in any combinations that are missing, like in the video.
How could you sort and organise these robots so we can find out what is missing?
How many different combinations can be made with one head? How can you prove this?
Example solution (select the arrow)
This array shows that for each head there are bodies and for each body there are 3 sets of legs.
Watch the next video to explore the 'for each' idea.
Checking combinations
You will need:
pencils
a workbook or paper
Watch the video and then have a go.
What is ‘for each'?
Duration: 2:58
In your workbook, answer the following questions.
If 9 robots can be made for each head, body or legs, how many robots can be made in total?
How many different robots can be made with:
three heads, three bodies and four sets of legs?
four heads, three bodies and three sets of legs?
Why are both answers the same?
Example solution (select arrow)
The total number of robots can be thought of as:
3 groups of nine = 27 possible combinations
3 heads x 3 bodies x 3 legs = 27 possible combinations.
Want to stretch your thinking? (select arrow)

SHINE TOGETHER
Count Us In 2017 Program
Music and lyrics: M. Forbes, J. Foreman, E. Escott, T. Henderson, S. Mustoe, M. Yeo, T. Yeo
[Verse 1]
I've never been the kind
To stand in the spotlight
But everyone is here
And we all shine together
Imagination's free
As the world around us dances
[Pre-Chorus]
It's okay to be a little different
You don't have to hide
[Chorus]
Let the music take control
Find your rhythm, find your soul
If you ever feel you've lost your spark
Listen to the beat within your heart
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la
[Verse 2]
No matter who we are
And no matter where we come from
Our differences create the wonder of the song
We start to sing louder
Joining our hearts as one
[Pre-Chorus]
It's okay to be a little different
You don't have to hide
[Chorus]
Let the music take control
Find your rhythm, find your soul
If you ever feel you've lost your spark
Listen to the beat within your heart
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la
[Bridge]
Sing a little bit louder
It'll make you feel stronger
Go ahead and sing louder
Everybody come together
When you sing this song the world will go...
Round...
And round...
And round...
Join your hands together and...
Sing!
[Chorus]
Let the music take control
Find your rhythm, find your soul
If you ever feel you've lost your spark
Listen to the beat within your heart
Let the music take control
Find your rhythm, find your soul
If you ever feel you've lost your spark
Listen to the beat within your heart
